When life imitates art

Meet Skimbleshanks, Mistoffelees and Jennyanydots, the rescued kittens who have found a name and hopefully will find a new home with the help of the Lowestoft Players.

As we near the start of our run of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit show Cats, the cast have been learning about the work of the Cats Protection Anglia Coastal Branch.

Recent arrivals include the young trio who were found by a binman on his lunch break in North Cove.

Refuse collector Ryan found the seven week old kittens hiding in bushes near the Three Horseshoes Pub.

With help from his East Suffolk Services colleagues Martin and Lee, they caught the felines and took them to Three Rivers Veterinary Group in Beccles.

The kittens were then hand reared and are now being looked after by the Cats Protection Branch.

After meeting members of the Players to explain their work, the branch thought the character's names were the purr-fect choice.

The Players had reached out to the charity earlier in the summer hoping to make new memories for felines without a home.

Mistoffelees

A spokesperson for the Players said: "As we know from our show the naming of cats is a difficult matter and for the branch to choose the names Skimbleshanks, Mistoffelees and Jennyanydots is a wonderful surprise. The volunteers work tirelessly to ensure every cat finds a new home and make new loving memories. We are sure it won't be long until this trio are making mischief with their new owner.

"It has been wonderful to see two Lowestoft based groups come together and find out more about each other's work."

Stephen Wilson, Co-Director and the team are hard at work reimaging the Broadway and West End hit  musical which is based on the Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats by T.S.Eliot.

Audiences will join the Jellicle Cats for a magical night at the Players Theatre for 10 shows only this September.

During the run, theatre goers will see at dedicated shows a bucket collection for the branch as part of the partnership.
